Protocol primer

What UCP, A2A, and MCP mean for your site

UCP is the commerce profile layer for agents and platforms, A2A is the agent-to-agent collaboration layer, and MCP is the tool/context layer used by model clients. The checker uses the discovery patterns from the official docs, so missing transports show up as real gaps instead of vague warnings.

UCP: the commerce profile

UCP lets a business publish a machine-readable profile at /.well-known/ucp with services, capabilities, payment handlers, signing keys, and transport bindings.

In this audit, UCP is the foundation: if the profile is missing, incomplete, or not discoverable, the rest of the agentic checks are harder to trust.

A2A: agent-to-agent collaboration

A2A is the protocol for two agents to find each other, exchange capabilities, and coordinate longer-running tasks. The discovery shape is centered on an Agent Card, typically exposed from/.well-known/agent.json.

UCP can point to that agent-card endpoint through an A2A transport entry, which is why the audit now shows an explicit A2A transport signal instead of guessing.

MCP: model context and tools

MCP standardizes how apps expose tools and context to model clients over JSON-RPC. In UCP, the MCP binding maps operations to tools/call with the operation name inparams.name.

That means a site should advertise MCP transport in its UCP profile. If it does not, the checker now marks MCP as missing so you can fix the gap before shipping.
